1960-70s New Look "Fishbowl"
This model is one of my favorites. Its large curved winshield and vintage styling makes this bus stand out on the road. It came in 30, 35, and 40 foot lengths and I believe both 96 and 102 inch widths. The original fleet of Metrobuses were simply repainted GMC Fishbowl DC Transit buses (DC Transit was the main bus company in Washington, DC before Metro was created and unified the many bus companies dotted across the DC area). There were various fleet numbering configurations and I can not remember how they went or the reasons for them. All fishbowls have been retired. It truly was a sad experience to see them go. |

1979 T8W-603, RTS-03
This design, called the RTS, is another one of my favorites. Even though by the time I rode them they were near the end of their lifespan, I enjoyed every minute of the ride. These buses were pretty beat up by early 2001, when every RTS was retired. |
