Metrorail

WMATA's MetroRail Cars are made by two companies:

ROHR CORPORATION
BREDA CONSTRUZIONI FERROVIARIE

The cars look very similar. Rohr cars have a larger winshield and two destination signs on each side of the cars. One sign has been converted into an external speaker. Breda cars have smaller winshields and only one sign per side of a car.

1976 Rohr Cars (1000 series, 1100 series, 1200 series)

The very first order of Metrorail Cars. Most are still in service. These models have a distinct whine when taking off. I personally like these cars better then the Bredas.

Breda Cars (2000 series)

These were Metro's first order of Breda cars. They all lack the braking system that all the other Breda and Rohr cars have, so they jerk when they take off and do not whine during takeoff.

Breda Cars (3000 series)

Nothing too special about these cars, other than they are the most common among all the Metrorail cars and also the second order of Breda cars.

Breda Cars (4000 series)

Nothing too special about these cars either. The corner of the winshields on these models are a rounded off rather than squared off. These were Metro's final order of Breda Cars.
